Explore Excel Charter School is a K-7 public school located in Canarsie, Brooklyn. Excel opened its doors in 2011 to students in grades K-3 and will add one grade per year until serving grades K-8 in 2016-17. Excel offers extensive support services for students with special needs, including a 12:1:1 program, as well as ample opportunities for family involvement. Meet Our Leaders
Dana Bogle, Principal
Born and raised in Canarsie, Mrs. Bogle has a unique understanding of the need for quality education options in central Brooklyn and the needs of families in the community. Mrs. Bogle joined the Explore network in 2006 and after serving as a school leader in Texas for two years, returned to Excel as a founding academic director when the school opened in 2011. Mrs. Bogle demonstrated a commitment to serving all students in leading Excel to open Explore Schools’ first 12:1:1 classroom to serve students with disabilities who require a highly-restrictive environment.
Karen Francois, Vice Principal – Lower School
Ms. Francois has spent the past 10 years as an educator, beginning as a teacher at a New York City public school in Brooklyn before becoming a Literacy Coach at Harlem Children’s Zone. She joined the Excel community in 2012 as an Academic Director, coaching teachers to support them in providing quality instruction to all students. In 2015, she was named Vice Principal of Excel’s Lower School Campus, leading the school in academic initiatives and priorities.
