Explore Excel Charter School is a K-7 public school located in Canarsie, Brooklyn. Excel opened its doors in 2011 to students in grades K-3 and will add one grade per year until serving grades K-8 in 2016-17. Excel offers extensive support services for students with special needs, including a 12:1:1 program, as well as ample opportunities for family involvement. Meet Our Leader
Karen Francois, Principal, Lower School
Ms. Francois has spent the past 10 years as an educator, beginning as a teacher at a New York City public school in Brooklyn before becoming a Literacy Coach at Harlem Children’s Zone. She joined the Excel community in 2012 as an Academic Director, coaching teachers to support them in providing quality instruction to all students. In 2015, she was named Assistant Principal of Excel’s Lower School Campus, leading the school in academic initiatives and priorities. She was acting Interim Principal in 2015-16, and became Principal in the 2016-17 academic year.
