Excel Upper Charter School is a unique place because of the members who make up our community. Our people can be characterized by the growth mindset they have. We push growth, being reflective, and a need for thoughtfulness.

We’re a reflective environment, using data to inform our practices and to continuously improve. Our goal is to not only focuses on instruction but to develop the whole student, too.

Everyone, from our school safety officers, to our kitchen staff, to our support staff, to our ops team, to our teachers, and to our families, all work together in service of our shared mission. The people and their drive are what is unique about our community.

In addition to the people, our school works hard to provide a variety of services to support student needs. We have a unique ICT structure that works to provide students with unique learning needs with differentiated instruction. We also build intervention blocks into the weekly schedule and have two 12:1:1 classroom settings.

We work closely with our Lower School campus to ensure a smooth transition for our 4th graders to the 5th grade.

Excel Upper also has a full-time high school placement coordinator who starts working with our families in 6th grade to help them navigate the complex high school application process in New York City. We believe that having a dedicated high school placement coordinator is a necessary resource to ensure our students achieve our mission of entering a college-preparatory high school.
