The school day at Excel Upper is longer, allowing for more class time. Our day begins at 7:40 am and ends at 3:20 pm with after school programs continuing until 4:45 pm, 2-3 days each week.

With our longer school day, we have more instructional time. A typical day starts with homeroom, followed by up to five-hour long blocks with a combination of core and enrichment courses, including reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, science, and enrichment.

In addition to the academic program, Excel Upper offers a collection of after-school and enrichment programs.

Our after-school programming includes boys’ and girls’ basketball that competes across Brooklyn, cheerleading that supports the teams, and critical thinking clubs. Our critical thinking clubs are academic, art, or skill building clubs facilitated by people within and around our community. The clubs are offered to students two days a week. The specific clubs vary year to year depending on the availability of our teachers and have included drama, dance, and board games.

We also organize enrichment courses during the academic day. We currently offer physical education, art, and Spanish for enrichment with the goal of offering coding in the future.
